About the Stone

Peruvian Blue Opal is a common opal — translucent blue to blue-green, without play-of-colour — from the Andes, chiefly around the San Patricio mine, its colour generally attributed to trace copper. It really is the national stone of Peru. Compare Owyhee Opal, the other blue opal in the range: that one is about spiritual purpose; this one is about calm and communication.

Care

Opal holds water and can craze with heat, strong light or dryness: no hot water, no long direct sun, no ultrasonic cleaners. Softer than quartz, so store it padded and apart. A soft damp cloth. Cleanse it in moonlight.
