About the Stone

Tridacna is the genus of the giant clams — the largest living bivalves, more than a metre across, which grow their shells layer upon layer for a century or more. A very old thing that got larger and more beautiful by simply continuing. The shell is calcium carbonate, and it takes a soft, porcelain-like polish; in Buddhist tradition it is one of the Seven Treasures, used for prayer beads.

Care

Soft, and it needs gentle care. Keep it out of water and away from salt, vinegar, perfume, cosmetics and any acid — shell etches easily. A soft dry cloth only, no ultrasonic cleaners, and store it apart from harder stones. Keep it from heat and prolonged strong sun. Cleanse it with sage or moonlight.
