About the Stone

Aura quartz is made by vapour deposition: clear quartz goes into a vacuum chamber with a metal — here titanium, often with niobium — which is vaporised and condenses onto the crystal as a permanent bonded layer. The dark iridescent blue-purple-green sheen is entirely the deposited metal; the base is ordinary clear quartz. The etymology is real: titanium was named in 1795 after the Titans of Greek myth. Also sold as Flame Aura and Dark Rainbow Aura.

Care

The coating is the fragile part: it is microscopically thin and, once scratched or worn, cannot be restored. No abrasives, no scrubbing, no ultrasonic cleaners, no tumbling, no salt, no long soaks; do not store it loose with other stones. A soft dry cloth, wiped gently; handle points by the base. Cleanse it with sound or moonlight.
