About the Stone

Tiger Iron is a banded ironstone: alternating layers of tiger eye, red jasper and hematite, laid down in ancient seas one band at a time and then compressed — most of it roughly 2.2 billion years old, almost all from the Pilbara in Western Australia. A stone made of accumulated, patient, layered persistence, sold for endurance and follow-through. This is not a stone for starting something; it is for month eight of a hard thing.

Care

Durable for everyday carry (Mohs 6–7); warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid long soaks and salt — the iron-rich bands can discolour — and keep it out of long strong sun, which dulls the tiger eye. A banded stone can split along a layer if dropped. Cleanse it in moonlight.
