About the Stone

Moldavite is a tektite: natural glass, not a crystal, made when a meteorite impact melted terrestrial rock and flung it into the air, where it cooled in flight. The impact created the Ries crater in Germany roughly 15 million years ago and scattered the glass across Bohemia and Moravia — the Moldau (Vltava) valley, which gives it its name. It comes from that one strewn field and the deposits are genuinely finite.

Wearing & Care

Put earrings on last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take them off for showers, swimming and sleep. Keep the pair together in a pouch so the stones don't rub against other jewelry. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. It is glass, and it chips and fractures like glass; broken edges can be sharp. Handle it over a soft surface and store it padded and apart from other stones. Cool water only — avoid sudden heat or cold, which can crack it — and no ultrasonic. Cleanse it with moonlight.
