About the Stone

Fire Agate is a true agate whose fire is structural rather than colour: thin layers of iron oxide between the silica layers throw flashes of red, orange and green that move as the stone turns — the same physics as an oil slick. It comes almost only from a narrow region of the American Southwest and northern Mexico, and cutting it is skilled work, which is why it is usually left freeform.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Durable and water-safe: warm water and a soft cloth. Cleanse it with moonlight or a smudge. US sizes.
