About the Stone

Peridot is gem-quality olivine, and its green is part of the mineral itself rather than an impurity — one of very few gems that comes in only one colour. It forms deep in the Earth's mantle and rides up in basalt, and it has also been found in meteorites. August's birthstone.

Wearing & Care

Put earrings on last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take them off for showers, swimming and sleep. Keep the pair together in a pouch so the stones don't rub against other jewelry. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Reasonably hard but sensitive to acids and sudden temperature change: warm water and a soft cloth, no ultrasonic, and keep it away from household cleaners. Cleanse it with moonlight.
