About the Stone

Not a diamond: a Herkimer Diamond is quartz, named for its extraordinary clarity and natural facets. What makes it remarkable is that it is doubly terminated — naturally pointed at both ends — because it grew floating free in pockets of dolomite instead of attached to rock, so it comes out of the ground already looking cut. True Herkimers come from Herkimer County, New York, from a 500-million-year-old dolostone, and many hold water bubbles or black carbon inclusions sealed in since then.

Wearing & Care

Put earrings on last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take them off for showers, swimming and sleep. Keep the pair together in a pouch so the stones don't rub against other jewelry. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. One of the most robust stones in the range: water-safe, and it can take daily wear. Store it apart from softer stones it can scratch. Cleanse it with moonlight or running water.
