Garnet — There are three basic varieties of Garnet; this variety is Almandine, which is also the variety known worldwide as simply "Garnet". Garnet is a stone of earthy passion. It is the number one stone I recommend for the Root chakra. It is a grounding stone that drips with the Sacred Masculine and can be an aid to those wanting to stand in that energy. Garnet is strength — a strength that reduces fear and worry to nothing, or inconsequential. It also increases awareness, like a scout on lookout for the greatest good of its sacred partner. About the Stones

Garnet. Garnet is a family of minerals rather than one; Almandine, the deep red iron-aluminum garnet, is the one the world simply calls Garnet. Hard, tough and water-safe — its toughness is why it is also used as an abrasive.

Ruby. Ruby is corundum — aluminium oxide coloured red by chromium — and at Mohs 9 the hardest thing in the range after diamond. Corundum of any other colour is called Sapphire. The opaque ruby most crystal shops sell is genuine ruby below gem clarity, and rutile needles inside it can throw a six-rayed star when cut as a cabochon. July's birthstone.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Ruby: Extremely durable: warm water, a soft brush, and it can take daily wear. The only caution is the reverse — it will scratch almost anything else, so store it apart from other stones. Cleanse it with moonlight or sunlight. US sizes. Not sure of yours?
