Sodalite is a stone I describe with one phrase: it eliminates confusion. It is a third eye stone that works with the energies vibrating from the pineal gland to separate and sort all the mess that is vibrating around us, so that we might better see the bigger picture and be better able to know what we want and where we stand. It helps to clear that mental fog we all get from overstimulating our brains with technology, followed by the real-world overwhelm of day-to-day life.

It is a gateway to other realms: meditation with it can help one attain the depths of the realm of healing and the heights of the realm of knowledge. Meditating with it over time increases consciousness, helping one to "wake up" — and once awake, it facilitates a sense of balance and tranquility often associated with inner peace. It relieves stress, and allows forward movement with a light heart.

It is often mistaken by the untrained eye for Lapis Lazuli. In fact, it is a mineral that is in Lapis Lazuli but can also stand alone — alone, or with calcite: when its deep blue is interrupted by patches of white, that is calcite. What you will not find in its makeup is pyrite, also known as fool's gold; the inclusion of pyrite would make it Lapis Lazuli. As you advance in your crystal knowledge, telling Sodalite from Lapis gets easier — Lapis always has traces of golden pyrite.

Care

Sodalite is softer than quartz and will scratch; avoid long soaking, salt and acids, which attack its calcite patches. Strong sun can fade the blue over time.
