About the Stone

Smoky Quartz owes its brown-to-black color to natural radiation from the surrounding rock acting on trace aluminum in the crystal — the darkness is light having passed through the stone and changed it. Scotland's national gemstone, where it is called Cairngorm.

Care

Keep Smoky Quartz out of prolonged strong sun, which can fade the color back toward clear. Otherwise one of the most robust stones in the shop. Cleanse it with sage or moonlight.
