About the Stone

Shattuckite is a hydrated copper silicate, deep blue to blue-green, named for the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee, Arizona, where it was described in 1915; the finest material now comes from Namibia. It usually grows with its copper cousins — chrysocolla, malachite, azurite, dioptase, quartz — so a piece is often a mixture, which is normal for the stone.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Soft and fragile: it scratches and chips easily, so store it apart from harder stones and handle it gently. Keep it away from water, salt and acids — a soft dry cloth only, no ultrasonic — and out of prolonged strong sun. Never use it in gem water. Cleanse it with moonlight or a smudge. US sizes. Not sure of yours? Measure a ring that already fits across the inside — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 a 7, 18.1 an 8, 18.9 a 9.
