About the Stones

Blue Topaz. Topaz is an aluminium silicate that forms in granite and volcanic rock; Brazil is the great source.

Garnet. Garnet is a family of minerals rather than one; Almandine, the deep red iron-aluminum garnet, is the one the world simply calls Garnet.

Amethyst. Amethyst is quartz with iron inclusions that give it its color; the most coveted deep purple comes from Uruguay, though some Brazilian amethyst rivals it.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Blue Topaz: Hard (Mohs 8) but brittle: topaz has a perfect cleavage and a sharp knock at the wrong angle can split it cleanly, so treat it as fragile despite the hardness. Amethyst: Amethyst's purple fades with long hours in direct sun — it is the stone Vero uses to teach the rule. US sizes. Not sure of yours?
