The Inuit people saw Labradorite as descending from the heavens — a stone of the Aurora Borealis — bringing the magical fire from the sky to the Earth. About the Stones

Black Onyx. Onyx is a banded chalcedony, the same mineral family as Agate; the solid black material is the classic form, and much commercial black onyx is colour-enhanced — a standard, stable practice.

Labradorite. Though the Inuit thought it rained down as frozen fire, Labradorite comes from deep in the earth — a feldspar formed by pressure, named for Labrador in Canada but found in Finland, Madagascar and the Appalachians too.

Rainbow Moonstone. Most Rainbow Moonstone is white labradorite — a plagioclase feldspar — rather than moonstone in the strict sense, which is why it flashes blue instead of glowing white.

Garnet. Garnet is a family of minerals rather than one; Almandine, the deep red iron-aluminum garnet, is the one the world simply calls Garnet.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Black Onyx: Durable: warm water and a soft cloth, and it can take daily wear. Labradorite: Labradorite has two directions of cleavage, so it chips if dropped on a hard surface. Rainbow Moonstone: Water-safe for brief contact; rinse and dry rather than soaking. US sizes.
