About the Stone

Obsidian is volcanic glass — lava cooled too fast to crystallise, so it has no crystal structure at all. The pale web-like lines are fine fractures and included material threading through the glass: a record of stress the stone carried and held together, which suits a teaching about integrating shadow and light rather than expelling it. Not the same stone as Spiderweb Jasper, which reads the web as legibility; this one reads it as connection. Chiefly from Mexico.

Care

It is glass: softer than quartz (Mohs 5–5.5), it scratches against harder stones and keys, and a chipped edge is genuinely sharp — store it apart and handle broken pieces with care. Warm soapy water and a soft cloth; no ultrasonic cleaners and no sudden temperature change. Cleanse it in moonlight.
