About the Stone

Malachite is a copper carbonate; its banding is growth structure, layer on layer deposited in the cavities of copper deposits, which is why polished pieces show rings and eyes. Chief sources are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Russia.

Care

Safe to handle when polished. Avoid ingesting, using in elixirs, or breathing dust from raw or cut Malachite. Wash hands after handling rough material. Do not soak it, and keep it away from salt water — it is soft, and water dulls the polish that makes it safe to handle. Cleanse it with sage or moonlight.
