About the Stone

Malachite is a copper carbonate; its banding is growth structure, layer on layer deposited in the cavities of copper deposits, which is why polished pieces show rings and eyes. Chief sources are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Russia.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Safe to handle when polished. Avoid ingesting, using in elixirs, or breathing dust from raw or cut Malachite. Wash hands after handling rough material. Do not soak it, and keep it away from salt water — it is soft, and water dulls the polish that makes it safe to handle. US sizes. Not sure of yours? Measure a ring that already fits across the inside — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 a 7, 18.1 an 8, 18.9 a 9.
