About the Stone

Kyanite is an aluminium silicate that grows in bladed, splintery crystals, coloured green here by traces of iron, chromium or vanadium. It has two hardnesses in the same crystal — soft along the blade, hard across it — which makes it splitty lengthwise. Chiefly from Brazil, Nepal, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

Care

Blades split lengthwise: handle gently, store flat and away from pressure, and skip the ultrasonic. Brief water contact is fine but do not soak — the layered structure traps water. Cleanse it with moonlight.
