About the Stones

Rutilated Quartz. Rutilated Quartz is clear or smoky quartz threaded with needles of rutile — titanium dioxide — in gold, copper-red or reddish-brown. The needles grew first and the quartz grew around them, so they are genuinely inside the stone, like captured light. Chiefly from Brazil.

Clear Quartz. Clear Quartz crystals are six-sided with six-sided points, usually dense and milk-colored near the base, growing clear toward the point when pure. It is what geologists call macrocrystalline — the crystal structure is visible to the naked eye.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Rutilated Quartz: Durable and water-safe. Needles close to the surface can be a weak point, so avoid hard knocks. Cleanse it with moonlight or running water. Clear Quartz: Clear Quartz can hold energy, so it does need to be cleansed — with sage or moonlight.
