About the Stone

Sapphire is gem corundum — crystalline aluminium oxide, with iron and titanium giving the classic blue. Red corundum is Ruby; corundum of any other colour is Sapphire, so the two are the same mineral with entirely separate teachings. Opaque material is genuine sapphire below gem clarity. September's birthstone.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. One of the most durable stones in the shop: warm soapy water and a soft brush, safe for water, salt and sun, excellent for everyday wear. It will scratch almost everything else, so store it separately. Cleanse it however you like. US sizes. Not sure of yours?
