About the Stone

Galena is lead sulfide — about 86% lead by weight, the world's principal ore of lead and a source of silver — and it breaks into perfect bright metallic cubes. It is remarkably heavy in the hand, about three times the weight of quartz, and it was the detector crystal in the first crystal radio sets. Chiefly from Missouri, Bulgaria, Peru and Morocco.

Care

Galena is lead: keep it away from children and away from food, wash your hands after handling it, never use it in gem water or anything taken internally, and never grind, sand or tumble it. It is a display specimen — enjoy it on a shelf, not in a pocket. Keep it dry; cleanse it with a smudge or moonlight, never water or salt.
