About the Stone
Cherry Opal is a common opal — hydrated silica with no play-of-colour — in warm peach, coral and cherry-red tones from iron oxide in the silica, found chiefly in Mexico. It is sold raw as well as polished.
Care
Opal holds water and can craze with heat or dryness: keep it away from hot water, long direct sun and very dry air. Softer than quartz, so store it padded and apart. A soft damp cloth. Cleanse it in moonlight.
