About the Stone

Chalcedony is microcrystalline quartz — the milky, translucent parent of a whole family: Agate is its banded form, and Carnelian, Chrysoprase and Onyx are its colours, each its own stone with its own teaching. As Vero's Book puts it, Agate and Chalcedony are the same stone; the chalcedony is the milky part and the agate is the banding.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Copper darkens with wear; a polishing cloth brings it back. Some skin turns faintly green under copper — harmless, and it washes off. Durable: warm water and a soft cloth. Cleanse it with moonlight or a smudge. US sizes. Not sure of yours? Measure a ring that already fits across the inside — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 a 7, 18.1 an 8, 18.9 a 9.
