Cedar is first and foremost a medicine of protection. It is often used to cleanse a home when first moving in, inviting unwanted spirits to leave and protecting a person, place or object from unwanted influences. Cedar is often used in the sweat lodge ceremony. A powerful cleansing smudge!

How to Smudge

Light the tip over a fireproof dish, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow it out so it smoulders. Fan the smoke where you want it — into the corners and doorways of a room, over a stone or a piece of jewelry, around yourself from feet to crown — with a feather or your hand. Open a window so what you clear has somewhere to go. When you are done, press the ember out in sand or a shell. Never leave it smouldering unattended, and keep it clear of smoke alarms, curtains, children and pets.
