About the Stone

Opal is hydrated silica — not a crystal at all, but a glass-like mineraloid that holds water inside it. This is common opal, prized for its soft body colour rather than play-of-colour.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Opal can craze with heat, strong light or very dry air. Keep it from hot cars and sunny windowsills, off it with perfume and lotion, and never use ultrasonic or steam.
