About the Stone

Kyanite is an aluminium silicate that grows in bladed, splintery crystals — named from the Greek kyanos, blue. It has two hardnesses in the same crystal: soft along the blade, hard across it, which is why it was once called disthene, 'two strengths'. Green and Black Kyanite are separate stones with their own teachings.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. It splits lengthwise — handle by the flat, store flat, and never stack anything on a blade. Water-safe in principle, but don't soak it; the bladed structure traps water between the layers. It never needs cleansing itself. US sizes. Not sure of yours?
