Aragonite has many forms — so many that sometimes it seems as though they cannot possibly be related. But they all are. The reason Aragonite can look so many ways and still be the same crystal is in its microscopic crystal structure, orthorhombic, which is the same in all Aragonite even though it presents very differently on its surface. In general, the energy of Aragonite calls out to us as a grounding stone: it is often used to center and ground physical energies and is very useful for centering during stressful times. Aragonite stabilizes the Root chakra and strengthens one's connection with the earth.

Aragonite Star Clusters — the Sputnik form — are stones whose energy reminds us that we are the stuff of stars. They connect us to our planet by reminding us that it is a small rock floating in a vast universe, and help us remember how fortunate we are to exist here; all of this leads us to protecting what we have, and it is sometimes known as the conservationist stone for this reason. Use Star Aragonite when performing earth healing ceremonies, and place it on ley lines to send healing energies throughout our planet. It assists in healing and balancing the emotional body, adds clarity to prayer, and promotes Earth's health.

About the Stone

Aragonite is calcium carbonate — the same chemistry as calcite, in a different crystal system — and the Sputnik clusters are its star form: rust-orange crystals radiating from a centre like the satellite they are named for, mostly from Morocco. Brown Banded and Green Aragonite (California Onyx) are its other forms, each with its own teaching.

Care

A carbonate, so keep it from vinegar, citrus and household cleaners; the star clusters are brittle at the tips — set them down gently and dust rather than wipe. Brief water is fine, no soaking. Cleanse it with moonlight or a smudge.
