About the Stone

Apophyllite is a sheet silicate whose crystals grow a pyramid tip on a cubic base — exactly the shape the cards describe — and it comes almost entirely from the basalt quarries around Pune in Maharashtra, India, often grown together with peach or white stilbite. Green and red apophyllite are the same mineral coloured by traces of iron and vanadium.

Care

Soft and cleaves easily: handle by the matrix, keep it out of water, and dust with a soft brush rather than wiping the crystal faces. Keep it out of strong sun, which can dull the lustre. Cleanse it with moonlight or a smudge.
