Amber is actually not a stone, but a fossil. It is fossilized tree sap that flowed from trees millions of years ago; this slow-moving flow often trapped unsuspecting insects in its path, immortalizing and preserving them for all eternity. Amber is a stone that helps us get through difficult transitions as it dissolves opposition. When forces in life are working against each other, Amber can help to bring harmony.

Spiritually, Amber helps to absorb negative or stagnant energies from the auric field — also known as the energy body. In crystal healing, when a stagnant or less-than-light energy is known to be held in a particular chakra, meditations with Amber on that chakra help to draw out the offending energy; the Amber then transmutes that energy to divine light to be purified. A remover of obstacles, Amber guides with ancient wisdom and brings the warmth of sunshine on cloudy days — a luminous resin infused with the light of ancient suns. About the Stone

Amber is the hardened resin of ancient trees — most Baltic amber is around 40 million years old — and it is warm to the touch, light enough to float in salt water, and often holds insects, seeds or bubbles sealed in as it flowed. It is an organic gem like Jet and Pearl rather than a mineral.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Amber is not a self-cleaning stone: cleanse it regularly, preferably with sage — and it will always love a bath in the light of the Full Moon, as will all of your crystals. It is soft and scratches easily, so store it apart from harder stones, and keep it away from perfume, hairspray, solvents and heat. Wipe it with a soft cloth; no ultrasonic, no hot water. US sizes.
